Dorothy West

I was born in Coventry in 1944 and went to Ravensdale Primary School and Stoke Secondary Modern School for Girls.
I married Vincent West, a software designer, in 1964. Our daughter Amanda was born in 1965. She is married to Chris - they have two children, Bethan and Daniel.
After resuming my education, I obtained an honours degree in Drama and Theatre Studies from London University in 1983. I qualified as a teacher with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education the following year. I taught in a number of comprehensive schools in Berkshire, mainly Maiden Erlegh School in Reading, where I had responsibility for Advanced Level Theatre Studies. I retired in 2001.
I now enjoy a very busy retirement, seeing friends, visiting my family, gardening etc.
I have just retired as vice-chair of governors of a local primary school, but am still informally involved in directing plays and in various other activities.
I am a volunteer for "Daisy's Dream", a Berkshire charity which supports bereaved children. It's challenging but rewarding.
Having done no art since primary school, I signed up for classes earlier this year. To my astonishment, I have a bit of a talent and have even sold a painting!
